setting the alarm for a 5am shopping but not for exercise???

hey so were you one of the many last friday who set an alarm to shop? do you set an alarm to exercise? well if you answered no then I think you know what I’m going to say… isn’t there something wrong with that? well, wait let me rephrase the question, if you’re not a morning person do you work out after work or during a longer lunch break? if you said no then you definetly know what I’m going to say, what the hell!! there is definetly something wrong with this country and how we promote health and well being. why aren’t we having a world wide exercise sale! like starting this friday from 5am til noon everyone across the country get up and go for a run or take a spin class at your local gym or take a 6am yoga class. start the day right!  you’re doing it  because you want to feel good and be healthy and you havent spent a dime! that sounds like a fantastic black friday to me! it’s a shame though that we’ll never have anything close to that because this country makes way too much money off you being over weight and unhealthy but at least you look good in that cashmere sweater! But wouldn’t you feel so much better if you were healthy wearing that sweater?

do you know how to read a nutritional label?

when you walk into a super market and pick up an item do you know how to read a nutritional label? like how many servings there are? or how much sodium in the entire package? or how many carbs? sugar? also do you know how much sodium, carbs, protein, fat, etc… you need per day? how much a day exceeds that? well here’s an example of what your sodium should be for the day and keep in mind this applies to someone who’s pretty healthy and understands how to read a food label. for women total sodium for the day should be about 1100-1200mgs and for men 1500-1700mgs. some products that I’ve picked up in some grocery stores have that in one serving of one item!! holy wow! that’s insane but that’s how these companies keep the food preserved. they load it up with sugar and salt. it’s a little scary when the expiration date on some items are 2  or 3 years from the day you purchase it. if foods are not processed they generally will only last a few days or maybe a week before they go bad. so in my opinion avoid anything from a bag or box. try to eat fresh, clean foods. maybe go hit up your local farmers market! supports the local farmers and keeps you healthy!

Thanksgiving is next week!!!

alright so here’s the deal… I know that you’re all going to shove as much unhealthy food in that gorgeous face of yours next week so you have to work out extra hard this week to try to make up for the madness that will be happening on thanksgiving day, day after, weekend of… what do I mean by that? 2 a days. so a nice long run in the am and a pretty intense resistance session in the pm. yes 2 a days even on just cardio days. so a nice long run the am and a higher intensity cardio work out in the later afternoon or evening. also remember to stay hydrated and get that post work out shake in within 30 minutes of that work out. more tips visit me on facebook or twitter.

The Holiday season is here!

ok, so thanksgiving is around the corner and christmas not far behind so here’s a tip on staying on track. MODERATION AND KEEPING YOUR EXERCISE PROGRAM  ON TRACK!! Look if I said that you just need to  eat healthy, no matter what I would be a hypocrite! Around the holidays even I slip up! so here’s what you need to do, please enjoy yourself but obviously in moderation. still work out the way you normally do. DO NOT slack on that because that could  be your only saving grace. The exercise during the holidays will allow you to eat a little more of those mashed potatoes(no butter of course and if there’s sweet potatoes much better) or 2 bites of the pecan pie instead of 1. In a perfect world your holiday meals would be prepared super healthy. you’d have a dream chef who knew how to transform all those super unhealthy foods into healthy ones and wouldn’t compromise on  taste either but we don’t(or most of us don’t anyway) so enjoy the holidays! have a great weekend!
